Here I am. Looking out at a beautiful August day in Toronto — clear blue skies with Air Canada airplanes in the foreground.
This day felt so far away at one time. And now it still feels surreal, or something, to be typing on my new laptop at YYZ and absorbing all these mixed feelings I have for this Asian adventure.
I won’t be coming home in two weeks. Or even a month. I didn’t pack three suitcases for another year in Ottawa. When I hugged my friends yesterday, and my mom and sister this morning, tears came to my eyes. Oakville is my home base and I’ve been in transition for a while. But this time, I can’t come back home in a few hours to see my family. My friends. Simba.
For this journey, this transition, things are different. Goodbye Canada, Hello Shanghai.
